David Ellingsen

Award winning photographer David Ellingsen creates strong portraiture & commercial work, in tandem with his fine art collections, for clients and patrons from around the globe.

David creates photographs for advertising, corporate, and editorial clients which are recognized for their integrity, honesty and precise lighting. His tough, raw, but always gracious portraiture has attracted commissions from global publications such as the New York Times Magazine, BMW, Time Inc., and People. David has also partnered with clients like MTV/Nickelodeon, Nettwerk Records, Translink, BC Hydro and the esteemed David Suzuki Foundation, bringing a cultured fine art aesthetic to his crisp, balanced commercial style.

David’s striking fine art photographs are represented by various galleries and agents. These collections are captured on traditional medium or large format film stock, hand processed, and printed to museum exhibition standards in small editions. In 2008, along with record patron demand, the 17th Annual Applied Arts Photography Awards bestowed on David a prestigious winning title for his fine art work, as well as becoming a 9 time Honourable Mention recipient at the International Photography Awards (aka Lucie Awards) in Los Angeles.

David was raised on a rural organic farm on Cortes Island, at the southern end of Desolation Sound, in British Columbia, Canada. In 1986 he relocated to Victoria, BC, where he began his studies in photography and from where he based extensive travels across North and Central America, South East Asia and the United Kingdom. In 1999 David moved to Vancouver, BC, to further his education and pursue a career in photography. David is a strong believer in giving back to his community, and with his studio’s success, is proud to support many different charity organizations such as Journalists for Human Rights, Foster Parents Plan, HIV Support Services, and others.
