“In my work, photography and painting combine - I paint with photographs. The great out doors of British Columbia - both urban and rural - draws me in to record it with my camera. To leave it at that would be too literal - I rework the images drawing on my expertise as a painter, to create visually stunning and unusual images.”

What has inspired my art? One word suffices – NATURE

The England of my childhood is still a part of me – its fabulous gardens, lush greenery and rolling pastures. Now I live in Vancouver, immersed in a different kind of nature. Vancouver’s verdant rainforests, exotic, colorful gardens and mystical seascapes have together with my English inheritance, blossomed my passion for flora, fauna and landscape.

For many years I have worked with botanical imagery, using a formal, realistic format. More recently, thanks to my exploration of new mediums and new ways of visual expression, my work has developed in a different direction. My focus now is to recreate the spirit of the natural environment – its movement, energy and direction. This is achieved through use of multiple layers of imagery and color. The resulting three-dimensional effect is, in my opinion, unique and exciting.

My working methods echo the cyclical nature of “The Seasons”. Images are deconstructed and rearranged, much as flowers wither and die only to bloom again. Nature in its teeming insistence on being. I seek to create a surface that is full of vitality, movement, color and light.
